Angus celebrates the launch of his debut novella Departure & Arrival
Golden Guitar winner Angus Gill has added another milestone to his ever-expanding creative journey with the successful launch of his debut novella, Departure & Arrival.
Released through Rivershack Publishing, the book is a tender, funny and unsentimental look at grief, friendship, and the slow, aching changes brought by Alzheimer’s disease. Set in the fictional coastal town of McAllister Point, it blends heartfelt realism with Gill’s trademark wit and humanity, offering readers a story about finding comfort in the mess and laughter in the dark.
“I wanted to write something honest,” Gill says. “When you go through something like Alzheimer’s in your family, you learn to laugh through the heartbreak. It’s a way of remembering people for who they were, not just what they became. This story is about love, resilience, and how humour can help you survive the hard stuff.”
The weekend saw Gill celebrating the launch with live performances and readings from Departure & Arrival, where audiences responded warmly to the book’s honesty and charm. Many remarked on how seamlessly Gill’s storytelling as a songwriter translates to the page, balancing humour, observation, and emotional truth in equal measure.
Departure & Arrival marks a natural evolution for the ARIA-charting artist and producer, who has already achieved 18 #1s on Australian Country Radio, multiple Golden Guitar nominations, and widespread acclaim for his storytelling. With this release, Gill continues to bridge his worlds of music, literature, and comedy, each feeding the other with his unmistakable voice and insight.
