Angus magnificently reimagines the Australian classic, Sounds of Then (featuring Mark Callaghan)

“You can take the man out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the man.” In this case, the country is Australia, and the man is Angus Gill—an award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer now permanently based in Nashville.

Originally from the Mid North Coast of NSW, Gill made the leap to Music City in early 2024, expanding his already vast network of collaborators across genres. While writing and recording with some of Nashville’s finest, a suggestion from his Australian publishing company sparked an unexpected new project: reimagining classic Australian songs in a traditional bluegrass style.

Gill enlisted an all-star line-up of Nashville musicians, including Tim Crouch (fiddle, mandolin, double bass, banjo, guitar, percussion), Scott Vestal (banjo), and multiple Grammy winners Ron Block (Alison Krauss & Union Station) (banjo, guitar) and Randy Kohrs (dobro).

No stranger to bluegrass, Gill’s past work in the genre has earned him critical acclaim, a Golden Guitar award, and 17 #1 hits on Australian Country Radio. What began as a handful of songs quickly grew into a full-length album—Postcards—a heartfelt collection of beloved Australian classics, reimagined in the spirited bluegrass tradition and sent back home with love.

The first taste of Postcards is a fresh take on the GANGgajang classic “Sounds of Then”, featuring a special guest vocal from the song’s original composer and lead singer, Mark Callaghan.
