Angus releases Postcards: a bluegrass reimagining of classic Australian pop and rock songs

Golden Guitar winning artist, songwriter and producer Angus Gill has released his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Postcards, a bold and joyful reimagining of classic Australian pop and rock songs through a Nashville bluegrass lens.

Recorded in Nashville with Grammy winning musicians and featuring special guests from across genres, Postcards celebrates Australia’s rich musical legacy while introducing it to new audiences. The album’s feature track, “Come Said The Boy”, has already drawn praise from Ross Wilson and Eric McCusker of Mondo Rock, the band who made the song famous.

“It’s so refreshing to hear a new take on this song,” said Ross Wilson.
“It really captures the moodiness and the joy. Surf and Turf,” added Eric McCusker, who wrote the original hit.

Postcards finds Gill bridging continents and generations, pairing beloved Australian classics with the energy and musicianship of Nashville’s finest. Known for his knack for collaboration and creative reinvention, Gill has assembled an album that feels both nostalgic and entirely new.

“These songs are like postcards. I wanted to hold them up to the light and see what new colours came through, when re-imagined with some of my favourite bluegrass players,” says Gill.

The album features an all-star cast of guests, including Gang Gajang’s Mark Callaghan, soul powerhouse Deni Hines, country-pop standout Melanie Dyer, Country Music and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer James Burton on dobro, and Grammy winner Ronnie Bowman. Together, they help breathe new life into songs made famous by Split Enz, Mondo Rock, Gotye, Thelma Plum, Meg Washington, Diana Anaid and more.

The first single, “The Sounds of Then” (feat. Mark Callaghan), has already made waves, reaching #1 on the AMRAP Regional Chart, signalling the strong reception for Gill’s inventive take on these classics.

Postcards also showcases a powerhouse lineup of Nashville bluegrass legends, including Tim Crouch (fiddle, mandolin, double bass, banjo, acoustic guitar), Randy Kohrs (dobro), Scott Vestal (banjo) and Ron Block (banjo, acoustic guitar).
